Parenting Beyond Power  Mini Retreat

Hosted by Living Room Realty
Portland, Oregon

Date:
Sunday, Oct. 29 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Jen Lumanlan for a half-day retreat in a beautiful and relaxing environment.

We'll provide morning snacks and a light lunch, while we dive deep into a learning and creating community with like-minded parents of children aged ~1-10.

This will be a learning, growing, and reflecting experience to practice some powerful parenting tools in a safe and comfortable environment.

We will:

check_box_outline_blank
Understand how big social forces like White supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism show up in our parenting today, whether we want them to or not;
check_box_outline_blank
Learn and practice new tools for being in relationships with our children, co-parents, and other people in our lives in ways that are deeply grounded in our values, and allow for both our and our children's needs to be met;
check_box_outline_blank
Have the space and opportunity to build our 'village' with like-minded parents.
You'll leave the retreat feeling deeply connected to the other participants as we strip away the social conventions that keep us separated and lonely, and practice ways of being in relationship that are aligned with our social justice values. Plus you'll have a toolbox that makes parenting easier immediately - as well as relationships with your co-parent and other adults in your life!
Note: A photographer will be present at the event to create still images and video.  This will be done sensitively, and will focus mainly on Jen as the workshop host.  By participating in this event you agree to the creation and use of these images and video for any legal purpose, including but not limited to: publicity, advertising, and web content.  No royalty, fee, or other compensation shall become payable to you by reason of such use.

TESTIMONIALS
"Parents find that these tools also help them to improve communication in their families - both with their children and with other adults! They can now understand interpersonal challenges in an entirely different way, and can navigate formerly intractable conflicts with spouses and their own parents with grace and compassion, as they work to meet everyone's needs."

"Jen is a master teacher: approachable, knowledgeable, accepting, and FUN! Her message is clear and her parenting framework is a tool that can be used with children and also with adults. We are excited to put it to use in our community. Thanks Jen!"

"Jen is a master teacher: approachable, knowledgeable, accepting, and FUN! Her message is clear and her parenting framework is a tool that can be used with children, but also with adults and parents at our school. We are excited to put it to use in our community. Thanks Jen!"

About the Presenter
JEN LUMANLAN, MS, MED (she/her), is the host of the Your Parenting Mojo podcast, which was named Best Research-Based Parenting Podcast by Lifehacker.

After attending Berkeley and Yale and following a traditional career path in sustainability consulting, Jen found that parenting was her toughest challenge yet. She went back to school for a master's in psychology focused on child development and another in education, and trained as a Co-Active coach to share what she learned with other parents.

In courses, memberships, and now in the book Parenting Beyond Power, Jen connects ideas across all of these experiences to help parents see the real needs that underlie their children's difficult behavior, meet all family members' needs today, and create a world where everyone's needs are seen and met.

 We want the best for our children and we care about the world, but most of us never imagined parenting would be
this hard.

There is hope. The same tools that make parenting easier will help to change the world...
