If this is your first child, you've probably spent a lot of time getting ready.

The crib, the rocker, the black-and-white mobile to provide just the right visual stimulation.

But will you rush through the things that really matter (e.g. the lessons babies learn about communication, autonomy, and boundaries through diaper changes) to get the things that don't (the toy subscriptions, for example...)?

How will you support their development without making yourself an anxious wreck?

If you already have a child, perhaps you know that things need to be different this time around.

If you sacrificed everything for your first, you'll see that you just can't give your second the same amount of attention - there simply isn't enough of you to go around.

How will you help the first child adjust, and also help meet the second child's needs?

All the parenting advice you need

Recently we asked a parent we know where she gets the information she needs about her four-month-old's development.

Her answer?

Pinterest - and 'figuring it out as she goes.'

We almost fell out of our chairs.

Her answer?

Pinterest - and 'figuring it out as she goes.'

We almost fell out of our chairs.

This mother had spent hours crafting a birth plan, preparing a nursery, and getting the 'right' toys.

She used reputable websites to research childbirth and took the right supplements and ate nutritious food.

Later, she went to all the Well Baby checkups and called the Doctor whenever something seemed wrong.

She called on expertise to navigate difficult decisions - but when it came down to learning how to support her baby's development, she was trusting Pinterest and her ability to wing it until the shit hit the fan.

Why were we concerned?
Here are just a few of the reasons:
sentiment_very_dissatisfied

Typical websites about babies send you information designed to scare you and generate advertising dollars; their writers mostly don't understand the studies they're describing

mood_bad

Books offer more detailed material, but it isn't tailored to your unique needs

sentiment_very_dissatisfied

Friends and family will usually step in and offer advice, but perhaps we already know we want to raise our child differently from the way we were raised

Free online groups can help, but can you really trust advice from people who don't know anything about you and your baby?

sentiment_very_dissatisfied

Google is every parent's worst nightmare - scrolling on your phone at midnight while feeding your baby - this is a reactive way of parenting, not a proactive one

We created Right From the Start
because being a parent is really hard...

... And we envision a world
where parents have the support they need

Hi!  We're Hannah, Kelty, and Jen!

Between us we have five children under the age of eight. When ours were born, we relied on those same books, websites, groups and the panicked late-night Google searches of things like "when should I start sleep training?".

And it sucked! Every resource we looked at said something different, and we felt lost and terrified we were doing the wrong things. We felt more stressed out, anxious, and uncertain because the advice didn't seem like it applied in our exact situation - but there was nobody to ask!

We all decided that we didn't want other parents to feel like this. Hannah and Kelty graduated from Stanford, and have since been on a learning journey that incorporates many different parenting approaches, becoming certified in Positive Discipline, Simplicity Parenting, RIE Foundations Theory & Observation, NonViolent Communications, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, culturally aware parenting trainings, amongst others.

Jen graduated from Berkeley and Yale, and then went back to. school for a Master's in Psychology (focused on Child Development) and another in Education. She also became a Co-Active Coach, which means she'll listen to you like you've never been listened to before, and hear what's really happening underneath the things you think are stressing you out.

We created this course because we are aligned in our commitment to parents and children: we envision a world in which parents have the support they need, children grow up to realize their full potential, and everyone's needs are met.

We bring this commitment to you, to your child, and to social justice into every interaction we have with you.  You don't have to guess where we stand: we prioritize your relationship with your child above the social pressure we all face, so you can parent in alignment with your values. We help you identify those values, and then live - with your baby - in alignment with them.

When you thrive

Claire shares her experience...

"As a second-time mum, Right From The Start provided a great dose of reality, grounded in research which gave me both great ideas to inform my parenting choices and above all an incredible sense of support and genuine, vulnerable connection with other parents having the same kinds of challenges, fears and doubts as I do.

This sense of community has also helped me finally become more capable of self-compassion as I navigate what I consider to be the hardest job anyone will ever do."

We'll show you how to:
Build an attachment relationship with your baby, how to get more sleep (for your baby and you!), and other essential topics
If you're expecting a baby and want to make sure you're 'getting it right' from the start... Or if you're already in your baby's first year and feel exhausted, stressed, and worried that you've been 'doing it wrong,' this course offers you the warm reassurance and right tools to support your baby's development, health and happiness (and yours too!)
Right From The Start will help you to:
Overcome overwhelm, worry, and self-doubt when it seems like there isn't enough of you to go around
Build an attachment bond with your baby that will carry you through the tough toddler years - and beyond
Take care of yourself too: we see you as just as important as baby.
Know that you're supporting your baby's development in exactly the right way for them
Create a flexible and easy-to-follow plan to address the challenges you'll face in baby's first year that sets you up for success far into the future
There are a lot of individual solutions to the challenges you face in early parenthood.

There are hundreds of courses on sleep training (and, having studied the scientific evidence on sleep training we know they all give variations on the same advice).

And with all of these point-solutions, you have to figure out whether they are actually aligned with your values and in your baby's best interest.

Not just focused on quick fixes or today's problems, Right From The Start will help you lay the critical groundwork for a lifelong relationship with your child based in trust, collaboration, and respect.

Annie shares her experience...

"I am so jealous (but excited for others)... that there is something like this for first time mothers. I wish I had it with my first born as it would have been so helpful for my nerves and anxiety surrounding my new profession of 'child raiser!"

The modules are designed so you can listen to them in one big hit or if you're time short, just do a short section and easily come back to where you left off. My questions were answered quickly on the community platform.

And the information in the course - WOW, well it's just the bomb!  It is so reassuring for me that I can finally trust someone without having to trawl through the research papers people provide for the basis of their advice to see if they have taken all things into consideration, or have they just chosen the specific facts that support their point!

In addition to this Jen, Hannah and Kelty always consider the most important thing: our child. They remember that our child is a person who deserves to be listened to, understood and cared for no matter their age, and that through your role as their parent, you are setting the groundwork to encourage them to become a resilient, respectful and confident person that can survive anything that this unpredictable world throws at them!"

"This Right From The Start Course has been super interesting and gratifying for me!
When I signed up I'd never heard of group coaching and wasn't sure what to expect, so I've found the calls to be surprisingly intimate and constructive. The sense of community is palpable, with all these mamas in different yet very relatable circumstances.
I love listening to the course modules and will likely revisit them more than once in the days and years to come. Jen's depth of research and perspective is astounding, and Hannah and Kelty bring so much wisdom and grace to otherwise daunting issues. So glad to have found this!"

Why sign up for the
Right From The Start Course?

If you're expecting a baby and you've bought furniture and clothes but haven't thought about anything else that will happen after the birth, you aren't prepared for the most important parts of parenting.

face

If you're expecting a baby and haven't prepared for:

  • How you'll make it with less sleep than you ever thought possible

  • What you'll do with a baby all day once you get through the honeymoon phase when you're tired and touched-out

  • How your relationship with your partner is going to stand the stress of having a little person taking all of your attention

  • How you'll cope with your parents and in-laws, who have very different ideas about parenting than you do

  • How to nurture your baby's development without spending a fortune

... then you're not really ready (and you're not alone - we didn't think about these things as first-time parents either!)

sentiment_dissatisfied

If your baby is already here and you're struggling with:

  • Baby apparently needing your attention allll the time, so you can't get anything else done

  • Rushing through all the chores that need to be done, and never having enough time for yourself

  • Jealousy from the older sibling(s), coming out as meltdowns, regressions, and anger

  • Getting pulled in a hundred different directions because you never have enough time (or hands!)

  • Guilt that you can't give this baby as much time and attention as you did the last one

...then we can help!

If you're baby is already here and you're struggling with:

  • Baby apparently needing your attention allll the time, so you can't get anything else done

  • Rushing through all the chores that need to be done, and never having enough time for yourself

  • Jealousy from the older sibling(s), coming out as meltdowns, regressions, and anger

  • Getting pulled in a hundred different directions because you never have enough time (or hands!)

  • Guilt that you can't give this baby as much time and attention as you did the last one

...then we can help!

Shannon shares her experience...

"The 'Right from the Start' course has been a wonderful way to connect with other parents to think through perspective shifts in our parenting and also to get support through the tough newborn stage.

I was already aware of "respectful parenting" approaches and practiced them with my first child. This course was a good refresher and provided new ideas for ways of approaching my parenting that helped me feel more sane while caring for two kids at home in a pandemic!

I so appreciated the opportunity to learn from Jen, Hannah, and Kelty as they have thought so deeply about how we can show up better for our kids, I am constantly learning from them. I would highly recommend the course to anyone expecting a new baby - I'm planning to gift it to my brother and sister-in-law when the time comes."

Finding tailored, comprehensive
resources is HARD
Many parents ask their pediatrician for advice about their baby's development and are shocked to realize that pediatricians are trained to prevent, diagnose, and treat injuries and illnesses, receiving virtually no training on child development. The people that most parents rely on for information about their child's mental and emotional development essentially have no training on these topics!

You could read parenting parenting books, browse mommy blogs or (dare we say it) scroll Pinterest, and you may pick some good nuggets along the way. But it can take a long time to verify whether this information is based on scientific research, or aligns with your values, or HOW to apply it to your unique situation.

You could research for courses on some of these individual topics for $70 - $100 each, though most are only geared towards supporting your baby's needs rather than your needs too. Baby-only-focused support is a frustrating half-solution at best.
In all honesty, there is no other resource available that:
child_care
Holds both you and your baby's needs to be equally important and helps you meet them both
child_care
Offers a sense of community as you transition to your new role
child_care
Provides a forum for you to get your questions answered related to any challenge you're experiencing - whether that's about your baby or not!

After a baby is born there's a honeymoon period that might last until you get home from the hospital, or when the birthing pool is returned. At some point you may look around in the total confusion and say: "Well, what now? Where are all the grown-ups?!"

No questions asked!

Questions that parents just like you have asked before jumping into Right From The Start

1. What age should my baby be to benefit from this course?

The course is designed to support expecting parents and those with a baby under one year of age.

If you're coming on the earlier side you'll leave with a solid plan for how you'll show up in your relationship with your baby, and also with your partner if you have one, so your actions can be aligned with your values from Day 1 (and if you don't know what your values are, we'll help with that, too!)

If that ship has sailed and you're struggling with baby's crying and not sleeping and your fatigue and siblings' jealousy as well as whatever els life is throwing at you at the moment, then you're not alone and it's going to be OK - we'd love to meet you.

2. My baby is coming via adoption/surrogacy/I'm in a same-sex/polyamorous relationship. What will this be like for me?

While Hannah, Kelty, and Jen are all cisgender women in pertnerships with men, we welcome folks who are expecting a baby no matter how it arrives in your arms, and no matter with whom (or how many people) you're in a relationship.

3. I'm still no clear on how the course works. Can I take it anytime?

While the content will be available to you forever, we highly encourage you to work through it with us as a community. We'll give you access to a new module each week for eight weeks of the workshop, and we'll be in the community answering questions on a daily basis. We'd also love to see you on the coaching calls!

You'll likely get the most out of the course if you take it with us live (because then you can ask us questions and find a sense of community with the other parents with us) but don't worry if you fall behind; you'll have access to the content forever.

4. What are group coaching calls like?

We don't have a set agenda for the coaching calls, and we don't use them to teach new material. Instead we gauge how the folks who join the call are feeling and what's most important in their lives in that moment. Sometimes that's related to the current module's content, but sometimes we might help a parent navigate the stress of supporting a mentally ill parent (while parenting a toddler and a newborn) or help a parent to process a new insight about a childhood memory. We show up with our whole selves, and we invite you to do the same so we can laugh, cry, and learn together.

5. Do I have to be on Facebook to join the community?

No! Our community is hosted on a distraction-, ad-, and doom scrollling-free platform! Come on in :-)

6. How long will I be able to access the course content?

How about forever? Your access to the videos, audio, transcripts, and coaching call recordings on our beautiful custom-built learning platform never expires. The community is active for the eight weeks of the workshop and is archived at the end.

7. Do you offer a discount?

We offer sliding scale pricing, which we hope provides opportunities for people to work with us no atter what their financial circumstances. That said, we never want cost to be the only reason that someone who wants to work with us can't work with us. If even the lowest sliding scale price isn't doable for you, just send a brief email explaining your circumstances to support@yourparentingmojo.com and propose a price that feels like a stretch for you, but won't prevent you from putting food on the table, and we'll try to make it work if we can.

If you see that you move more resources than most and are able to contribute at the My Cup Is Overflowing level, you'll support us in providing this access. Thank you!

8. What if I join the course and find out it isn't for me?

No problem! (There's an unconditional money-back guarantee, remember?) Just drop us a line at support@yourparentingmojo.com and we'll send you a refund.
